Best time yet ;-)
This is the fastest I think I’ve run so far; an 8k over about 50 minutes. I need to be careful I don’t overdo it, since I’m still very much a beginner. But it’s a good sign that I will crack the sub 1 hour 10K.
The graph from my polar for the first time stayed fairly steady without climbing.

Slow start to the week
This run was really hard (yesterday - Monday). Coming back after a weekend off, everything hurt. It took 3k for me to start feeling fine, and it was difficult for the whole duration. I managed to do 6K, and actually did some fartleks towards the end of my run (it was more like a warmup followed by intervals than the hard run I’d intended). On looking at the graph today, I might be forgiven for imagining it, but I think the HR graph is a little smoother than it has been; and even a little flatter - so that is at least encouraging.
Getting out of bed this morning was tough, despite a good sleep, and my legs were hurting in a way that suggested I should take it easy. I’ll try to do a nice comfortable long run tommorow instead.
I hope to equal my total last week of 25K, but it’s going ot be tough - and realistically, that was such a bump on my usual distance, that I’m not surprised my body is complaining a bit. Best to listen to it and avoid hurting myself….

Off to a good start this year…
While I was a bit lax in updating my journal here last year, I did manage to get more exercise than I have in previous years - not a lot more, but a general improvement. Nearer the end of the year I started to step that up a bit and by today I managed an 8K run - this may well be the farthest distance I have ever done, which is fairly pitiful really.
I’m still on the treadmill - though I am working towards getting outside, but trying to get up to 10K before I do (since I tend to wheeze and get out of breath very quickly outside). I am hoping that building up a baseline of running for an hour or so and doing 10K will make it easier for me to get outside.
So far this week I’ve done 4 runs for a pretty impressive (for me!) 25K in one week. Today’s run was great; the first 3K felt almost easy - far better than I’ve ever felt while running.
I’m still trying to find a good pace to run at to get towards my first goal of a 10K. It seems that running at around a 9K pace is about right for me currently; my HR climbs up pretty slowly towards 165 after 8K, spending most of it’s time around 150->160 which I think is a ‘hard run’ for me, but still mostly aerobic.
My first goal for this year is to reach a 10K distance. After that I’m going to try to get it under an hour - it’s looking like I will come in around 65-70 minutes when I get to that distance, but we’ll see.
All good; feeling pretty pleased with myself at the moment.
